Friday Fright Nightcaps: The Haunted Grey Lady

The last weekend of October is always bittersweet. We’ve been counting down since September (some of us since July) and now, with Halloween less than a day away, there’s a sense of melancholy. I’ve been trying to find a cocktail that express both my jubiliation of the holiday’s arrival and my sadness over the Halloween season coming to end. Somehow, I ended up creating my own variation of the chocolate martini.

Behold, The Haunted Grey Lady, an original drink recipe featuring Kraken Black Roast Coffee Rum.

The Haunted Grey Lady by Halloween Kristy

INGREDIENTS:

2 oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream Liqueur
1 oz. Godiva Chocolate Liqueur
.05 oz. Kraken Black Roast Coffee Rum
.05 oz. Vodka

Optional Garnish:
Chocolate Syrup
White Chocolate Shavings
Whipped Cream

The Haunted Grey Lady with White Chocolate Shavings

You make this drink as strong as you like it. If you want more kick, add 1 oz. of Vodka. If you want more chocolate, add 1 oz. chocolate liqueur or add more chocolate syrup inside the glass. You can even garnish with whipped cream, if that’s your thing.

The Kraken is what gives the drink it’s grey look. You can substitute ingredients with other brands of the liqueurs. I’m sure that’ll work just fine, but I wonder about the color. Please post your pics in Comments section or hit me up on Instagram or Twitter using @HalloweenHaiku9

Friday Fright Cocktails: Cursed People Eater

After pissing off an insecure food blogger, I decided to make my own drink recipe to kick off the return of Friday Fright Cocktails.

This year has been wacky. Since 2020 and Covid-19 teamed up to pick on the human race, we’ve had to learn to adapt to fluid situations. Make changes on the fly. Step outside our comfort zones. We’ve also sadly learned that sometimes people absolutely suck, but we need community and Halloween has always been about community. That’s the only reason I share recipes I find around the web in the first place. Our community treats each other right. We know to give credit where credit is due. We know we’re gonna copy each other and nothing will ever be same because we put our own love into it. True Halloween lovers know how to share.

I don’t mind if you share the Cursed People Eater recipe, but it would be great if you link back here. I’m only sorry that I’m not a fancy schmancy food photographer that can offer you better photos. If you drink enough of these, you won’t be able to see straight anyway! 😛

INGREDIENTS:

2 oz. Vodka
1 1/2 oz. ginger ale
1/2 oz. cranberry juice (optional)
1/2 oz. blue curacao
1/2 oz. St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
1/2 teaspoon lime juice
a drop of Tabasco (or two)
a dab of Grenadine
1-2 maraschino cherries
crushed ice as needed

Cranberry makes the drink a bit too sweet. I made a version without it and liked it much better. The Tabasco is obviously the wild card here. It’s called a curse, but if you add the right amount, it’s actually a blessing.

Happy Halloween 2020!

Weekly Haiku Returns

Back in January, I made the decision to post my haiku monthly instead of weekly. I was hoping to trigger more creativity and force my hand at posting more short stories.

Then, Corona-virus happened.

The lockdown stifled my creativity. Anxiety and fear moved in like unexpected house guests and stayed far too long. I haven’t written a lick since the beginning of summer, choosing to hide out instead. My own blog, unrecognizable.

Like clockwork, however, the Halloween season is calling!

In anticipation of the upcomi ng holiday

season, I’ve been working on my own game plan to celebrate Halloween 2020 in a big way! First, I need a little course correction. That means, starting August 3rd, Haiku of the Week will return. I’ll still post Monthly Haiku Corner and those posts will continue to feature some striking imagery, but the weekly haiku will,  hopefully, stand alone on their own merits.

Have a wonderful and safe Halloween season!

Happy Caturday!

Happy August! Countdown to Halloween begins! Only three months away! After missing July, we’re back, celebrating cool cat art the first Saturday of every month now. This month’s artist is Lisa M. Nelson, a masterful, creative cat painter, and huge Halloween fan.

Recipe of the Month – July

One minute I was shuffling around my living room, worried about the current state of the world…

I suppose I could pour my heart and soul out, in another boring, feeble attempt to explain how summer depression disorder works, or, I could blame it on aliens. Lucky for you, I was totally kidnapped by aliens!

I don’t remember a thing, except when I woke up, a strange voice in my head told me to make these amazing Toy Story Alien Popcorn Balls found over at TotallytheBomb.com and binge-watch 5 seasons of CW’s The Originals, so that’s what I did.👽

Loneliness

Loneliness is like the wind.
Sometimes it’s a gentle breeze that touches your cheek.
Sometimes it’s a strong gust that knocks you over.
