Sinister Saturdays – Halloween Buffalo Chicken Skillet Dip

Halloween parties are a tradition dating back to ancient times, when the Samhain festival kicked off to celebrate the end of the harvest season. In the early days of America, that was the only way to celebrate Halloween.

Make your party a spooktacular success with this great dip recipe from Tasty.co, who share their quick and simple recipe for Halloween Buffalo Chicken Skillet Dip

Sinister Saturdays – Vampire Chocolate Mousse Parfait

Vampires. Creatures of the night. Tortured souls doomed to walk the earth for eternity. No other archetype in horror has captured our fantasy like the powerful vampire, with that insatiable hunger that drives the frenzied brain in search of prey. From the dark corners of alleys, all the way to highest chambers of royal castles, bloodlust is their curse, and to that, I say… too bad, so sad, more chocolate for us!

The mighty hunter, the Vintage Kitchen Chef has created a decadent dessert worthy of eternal worship, Vampire Chocolate Mousse Parfaits.

Friday Fright Nightcaps – The Walking Dead Cocktail

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, The Walking Dead returned this past week for its tenth season. The Walking Dead comics, once considered too complicated for mainstream television, now inspire pop culture in ways, we haven’t seen since the Romero’s horror hit masterpiece, Night of the Living Dead.

Last season divided fans, but with a new spin-off show in the works, in addition to the already popular, Fear the Walking Dead, there’s no denying that we like zombie TV. So, grab your cocktail shaker and let’s celebrate with Kat Balog’s crazy take on an old classic cocktail, The Walking Dead Cocktail.

Return to Spooky Season – Happy October

oct shadows

October 1st is only a few days away and it’s one big Halloween party all day, every day, around here. This season, I’m encouraging people to do two things, 1) be Green for Halloween, and 2) take the Halloween Pledge, a pledge to practice one old Halloween tradition and introduce a random new tradition into your celebrations this year.

Before I share the schedule of festivities coming in October, I have an exciting new development to report, Halloween Haiku has new message boards! You can access the forum by clicking on the spinning pumpkin on the right sidebar of the home page.

The forum hopefully will be a place where we can have a little fun together.  There’s going to be Halloween trivia, scary movie trivia, along with random chat and silliness, and a special contest on Halloween Day.

Recipe of the Month – Jack-o-Lantern Pumpkin Hand Pies

Pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins…you may have noticed pumpkins and Halloween merchandise slowly filling up the aisles of our favorite stores. Soon, my friends, soon!

While Fall doesn’t officially start until September 23, that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the plentiful, wondrous bounty of autumn today.  The folks over at Acorns & Custard feel us, and I found a delicious Jack-o-Lantern Pumpkin Hand Pie recipe, to go along with our pumpkin spice lattes. Recipe of the Month – Halloween Avocado Toast

It’s the last Friday in July. It’s hot. I don’t even want to think about turning on a stove.

Some people actually dread the early weeks in Fall because they live in states where the weather is hot and humid. Being from SoCal, I understand this.  So, when I came across this Halloween Avocado Toast breakfast idea from Brit + Co., I immediately thought, a fun no-bake recipe that quadruples as a snack, breakfast, lunch or dinner?  This is genius!

Halloween-Avocado-Toast-Recipe-Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 4 avocados
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 sheets of seaweed
  • radishes
  • black olives
  • mini dill pickles
  • grape tomatoes
  • walnuts
  • 1/2 red bell pepper
  • 4 pieces of toast

The entire recipe instructions can be found here: https://www.brit.co/get-in-the-halloween-spirit-with-our-avocado-breakfast-recipe/

Pretty sure this qualifies as crafts project too, since kids will love making little monster faces with all the cool cut veggies.

Bonus: Brit + Co make Halloween Bento Boxes too. We might never have to cook again!

Recipe of the Month – May 2019

Today is National Macaroons Day!  Macaroons are the confusing cousin to the French Macaron, oddly pronounced the exact same way. However, these little cookies are dense and typically made of coconut, whereas, French macarons are meringue-based sandwich treats.

Both make great Halloween desserts, but since it is national macaroon day, I’m sharing a delightfully ghoulish recipe from MasterChef Season 6 contestant Hetal, of Milk &Cardamom, as contributed on the So Fab Food website.
