Monthly Haiku Corner – February 2025

Happy February! Today’s full moon is a Snow Moon. Reminder that I’m combining my haiku with the monthly full moon dates.

Freedom in the land is frozen. Abominable monsters are on the rise and people everywhere are anxious, scared, and tired. Now is the time when we need gather all are strengh and all our courage. I’m realizing saving OUR country is going to be the fight to end all fights and no matter what happens, home, will never be the same. The enemy knows this and rich kings who depend on poor farmers to do their fighting for them know those people have nothing left to lose. The real question becomes, are you prepared to lose everything to fight for your freedom?

It’s going to be a long long winter.

Monthly Haiku Corner – January 2025

Happy January! Today’s full moon is a Wolf Moon. Instead of monthly themes, this year, I’ve decided to combine my haiku with the monthly full moon dates.

This past week, my hometown was devastated by wildfires and that influenced my haiku. Angelenos are courageous, creative, innovative, and resilient. They will recover from this tragedy.

It hasn’t been a great start, but the year is just beginning, and there’s plenty of time for a chance to rebound, recover, make positive changes, and do new things. Happy New Year and best wishes to all!

Happy November!

Happy October 2024!

Happy October! I can’t believe we’re celebrating our 6th Halloween season! This year, work has been crazy busy and finding the time to keep up with blogging is a huge challenge, but I’m not quitting yet!

Although, I’m going to scale back a bit, I will still be celebrating all 31 days of Halloween. Our theme this month is Halloween Vintage Classic, bringing together two of my favorite things in the whole world, vintage style Halloween decorations and old black and white spooky movies.

Be sure to check back every day this October for cool, fun, and inspirational Halloween, horror, and haiku.

Every Monday, I’ll be posting a brand new Halloween Haiku, honoring the theme of Halloween Vintage Classic.

Play spooky games and win spooky prizes! Every Tuesday, head over to Instagram for some fun and a chance to win some cool Halloween stickers and pins.

Every Wednesday, I’ll showcase original Halloween art that most represents our theme of “Halloween Vintage Classic” from the world’s most talented artists.

Every Thursday, let’s travel back in time and revisit some great black and white haunted classic movies.

It’s the return of Friday Fright Nightcaps and we’re gonna put the boos in booze!

Saturday nights are alright for fighting. It’s election year in the USA and what better way to get ready for November than by voting for your favorite scary movies!

Spooky Sundays are for reading, relaxing, and recharging our brooms.

Due to time constraints, I’ll be running a shorter challenge this year, starting in the last week in October, with me choosing a winner on Halloween night. More details to come, but for now, sharpen those pencils or pull up a blank page; I can’t wait to see those Halloween haiku!

Don’t forget to follow Halloweenhorrorhaiku on social media: Instagram, Threads, and Pinterest.

Have a Happy Halloween season, everyone!

Monthly Haiku Corner – September

Welcome back Ber months! The most memorable time of the year returns and Halloween season is underway. This month’s theme is Spooky September. I’m working on Fall bucket list and a photo challenge to share later this month. Please join me over on Instagram to share in the fun.

One thing that’s always on the Fall bucket list is watching scary movies. After revisting the entire Alien catalog in August, I decided to check out some other spooky sci-fi movies and ended up rewatching last year’s No One Will Save You on Hulu. It was a little cookie cutter, but otherwise well executed and inspired today’s haiku.

Monthly Haiku Corner – August

Happy August! We’re getting very close to the Halloween season. July was a shitshow and I’d like very much to leave the month behind. I promise more social media interaction, a recap of my time from Midsummer Scream along with lots of pictures, and an entertaining movie list for August.

This month’s theme is August Aliens. In celebration of Alien: Romulus from legendary Director and Producer Ridley Scott, which is the latest installment set in the Alien universe, one of my favorite franchises of all time. This month, I’ll pay tribute to the Xenomorph lore and also the dark fantastical artwork of beloved Swiss Artist and Designer H.R. Giger, original creator of Xenomorphs. Giger and the design and special affects team won an Academy Award for the sci-fi horror spectacle Alien, 1979.

Monthly Haiku Corner – July

Happy July! I’m struggling a lot lately. Work is hella demanding. Life’s not going the way I want. I’m disappointing those closest in my life and I have no time to adequately deal with it, to the point that I fear I’m in real danger of never being able to reconcile those relationships. All I can do is manage what’s right in front of me. I keep saying things like, ‘if only I had more time’… but any little bit of time I get though, I do something else.

It’s not time I need. It’s courage to handle the trauma I keep hidden away from the world. Trauma that disguises itself as something else, like Halloween collecting, video gaming, Disneyland trips, TV binges (thank you The Bear, Season 3, for highlighting how broken I am), escapes to the movie theater, craft beer drinking with friends, reading instead of writing, and playing around my little Halloween web blog.

I need to deal with this trauma and that means less time to do the things I love. It’s time. So, as Halloween season approaches, not much else will change here. I will continue to post new haiku once a month, share a movie list, and show up sporadically on social media. I’m not sure yet if I’ll hold a 31 day celebration for Halloween in the same manner that I have in the past few years. If I do, it’s going to look very different. For now, Halloween pre-seaon has arrived with retail stores stocking the shelves with the latest and greatest Halloween trends. I will unpack my old stuff and display it like it was new.

The theme this month is Halloween time.
