Monthly Haiku Corner – December

Happy December! I can’t believe it’s the last month of 2023. It’s been long ridiculous year. The theme this month is Merry and Fright. It’s a traditional Christmas vibe with a little dash of spooky sprinkled in. I’ll have lots of cool haiku, gift-giving guides, scary holiday movies lists and free gifts to give away so stay tuned. Season’s Screaming!

Monthly Haiku Corner – November

Happy November! Halloweentime was a busy, loud, and spooky whirlwind of sight and sound. We waited all year for October, and then, it was gone…the ‘Ber months are always a blur. That’s why I choose to regroup in November. Thanksgiving is two days of madness I don’t mess around with. Nope, I slow down, stay home, eat pie, drink spiced cider, and do some reading.

The theme this month is Fall Reading. All haiku in November will connect to tell the story of a visit to a haunted library, where a little ghost likes to read over people’s shoulders.

Monthly Haiku Corner – October

Welcome October! It’s Monday Macabre and officially Halloween for normal folks. You know, we celebrate 365, so it’s a super special month when WE all celebrate! Halloween is a time of ghosts and spirits, and spooky fun, which is why this month’s theme is A Haunted Halloween. All haiku posted Mondays will connect to tell a larger story.

Monthly Haiku Corner – September

Happy September and welcome back ‘Ber months! Our favorite time of year has returned and Halloween events are already in full swing. As more and more people fall in love Halloween and the Fall season, celebrations start sooner and last longer. Technically, there’s 20 days of Summer left and the unbearable heat could stick around, well into Novemeber. Still, nothing can damper our spirits. Imagine, waking up, looking out window and seeing the perfect Autumn day. This month’s theme is Autumn Windows.

Monthly Haiku Corner – August

Just returned from Midsummer Scream, a Halloween and horror convention that takes place in Long Beach, CA every year, and I’m all ready to keep the celebrations going! I’m not the only one. Technically we still have another month before the official Halloween season starts, but preparations start now. So, what happens when a group of pumpkins on their way to the Halloween bash get lost at beach? Let the shenanigans begin! This month’s theme is Summerween!

Monthly Haiku Corner – July

Happy July! Summer is in full swing and Halloween countdown is on. Code orange alerts (fan notifications of retailers displaying seasonal products) are already being reported. America will soon be celebrating its 247 birthday and there’s nothing more American than the zombie film.

Chicago born director, Victor Halperin introduced audiences to the Haitian mythos of zombies when White Zombie opened in 1932, and in 1968, New York filmmaker George A Romero changed the Hollywood landscape forever with his first horror film, Night of the Living Dead. Yes, indeed, the zombies as American as Apple pie, which is why the theme this month is Red, White, and Ghoul. All haiku in July will connect to tell the story of a good ole fashioned American zombie apocalypse.

Monthly Haiku Corner – June

The theme this month is June Doom. All the haiku posted every Monday will connect to tell the tale of a seafaring crew’s dangerous ocean journey.

Monthly Haiku Corner – May

Happy May Day! May in my mind has always been a strange mix of madness, mayhem, monsters, and, of course, mothers. So, this month’s theme is May Mutant Monsters!

Monthly Haiku Corner – April

The theme this month is Halloween Dreams and Nightmares. All the haiku posted every Monday will connect to tell the tale of what happens when Stingy Jack challenges The Sandman to a duel.
